We are excited to announce the first theatrical production at the Barn. Playhouse in the Park produces a series of shows "Off the Hill", meaning they are held in locations around the area. We will be hosting a performance of "Cyrano" on January 16th, 3:00 in the gallery. Seating is limited, so order tickets in advance.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held September 19th, just before our annual Fun Razer event. What a beautiful evening at 6980 Cambridge Avenue. Mariemont's Town Crier, Hank Kleinfeldt, called the assembly to order. Boy Scout Troop 149 lead the scores of Barn supporters and friends in our Pledge of Allegiance, and past Foundation President, Jane McDonald, made introductions. We'd like to thank the Lindner Family, for their generosity and vision, The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission and leadership in Columbus for their support and belief in us, and the Mariemont Preservation Foundation for their guidance.

The transformation is remarkable! The fresh coat of paint and new front drive are funded by the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission. The wing on the right contains a new classroom and three individual artist studios. Art classes for adults and teens are continual.

Kids are having great fun in the summer classes at the Barn. June and July have been busy with children who are drawing and painting - even doing sculpture! Barn Yard Sale May 30

All ages of shoppers visited the Barn Yard Sale. We had good sales, earning over $1,200 from items that were donated by members and friends of the Barn. Buyers clamored over the baked goods sale, organized and manned by Linda Sullivan. The baked goods raised $186, and sold out around 1:30, before the chocolate icing completely melted...

What a day! After weeks of collecting dishes, gathering exotic ingredients, and fighting with the Post Office, we finally had our Tea!

We owe HUGE thanks to Jo Gately and Jane Coffee for compiling recipes, soliciting donations, brewing, baking and bringing along their own support system.The WAC brigade that gave so much of their time and creative efforts were real troopers to the last drop. Thank you, everyone!

As you can see, the community came out in droves - 160 reservations for an event that was originally planned for 100.

January Meeting with Keith Klein

Keith Klein painted this very convincing vase of flowers without having a vase of flowers to look at! We had a great turn out for the demo which took place after the regular monthly meeting. Next month's meeting is a tour at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Come at 11:00 for lunch in the cafe, February 14.

English Afternoon Tea on March 28
We are so excited about this upcoming event! Jo Gately and Jane Coffee, two Mariemont residents from 'across the pond' have offered to produce an authentic Afternoon Tea as a fund raiser for the Barn. Save the date - March 28, 3 - 5:00 pm. This is a family affair you won't want to miss. The ladies will oversee all baking from authentic English and Irish recipes, which of course includes cucumber sandwiches, shortbreads and much more! More information will come next month, but get your reservations in now: $15 for adults, $10 for children under 12. Mail your check, made out to "WAC Foundation" to "WAC Cultural Center, 6980 Cambridge Avenue, Mariemont, OH 45227.

It's another busy month at the Barn!

Pictured are Deborah Ridgley, chairman of the Holiday Art and Craft Sale and Tim Boone. The sale starts with a reception Sunday, November 7 from noon to 4:00. Be sure to come and bring your friends. This is the perfect place to get those unique artsy gifts for the 'someone special' in your life.

Basket preparation began November 4 with many helping hands from the Woman's Art Club. Donated items have been assembled into exciting themes that will be part of the raffles and silent auction held November 15 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Jazz music, delicious tidbits and beautiful art for sale are the featured attractions!

Join us for our first annual fall fundraiser November 15, 6-9 p.m. Money raised from this event will benefit Phase Two of the renovation plan. On completion, we'll have more studio space to rent and an additional classroom.

While we continue to transform this charming 1920's barn into an art center, classes are being held and we've rented space to various non-profit organizations and private parties. Each month different artists rent the gallery for art exhibits that are open to the public. The support and useage is very gratifying.

We hope you'll come November 15 to see our progress, enjoy lively jazz by Xavier U. professors, taste delicious light fare by "Tom and Amy" caterers, buy some original art by Mariemont residents and Woman's Art Club members, or just have some fun with our basket raffles.

September Happenings

"Get Behind the Barn" yardsale was held September 21. The goal was to raise at least $1,500 to match the grant from the Fine Arts Fund. We almost made our goal, and more money continues to trickle in as we sell a few remaining treasures.

The grant will allow us to purchase a lecturn with speakers and a microphone, several easels and eventually a digital projector. These items will enhance our art classes and programs.

A huge "thanks" goes to Diana Taylor and her family for their time and talents, and to everyone who assisted and donated to the sale.

The "Boone3" exhibit was held in the gallery September 5 - 24. The sale was enjoyed by a sizeable crowd, and sales were good!

Don't miss the current exhibit, "A Date with Eight" that runs weekends through October 19.

Next month we hold our first fund raising gala on November 15th. The public is welcome to partake in an evening of jazz, art sales and silent auction. Classes and exhibits are being scheduled while we continue to restore the property at 6980 Cambridge Avenue.
The building is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 to 3:00, so stop over and have a look!
This Wednesday, Mary Howard stopped by to inquire about an exhibit for her client, John Kluesner. That was followed by a visit from Charlie Berger to discuss his plans for summer workshops for high school students. More information will follow on that...
And Barry from Delhi Pest Control diagnosed our ant affliction as easily curable. Whew!

Helping Hands

The Boy Scouts are back to help out. Don't be fooled by this pizza break - they worked hard to build a walkway along the East side of the property. We have been blessed with Scout volunteer help, and the Senior Class at Mariemont High School. You can drive by occasionally and see kids scraping and painting the outside of the Barn. You guys ROCK!

The Woman's Art Club held their 115th Annual Juried Exhibit in the new gallery at the Cultural Center. It was estimated that around 400 people were in attendance. Elaine West took first prize with her watercolor "To the Point".
Funding is progressing, thanks to Michelle Schneider and Tom Brinkman. We hope to receive $220,000 in state funds this year, and get moving on Phase Two.
