March 15 was a great opportunity for Southwest Ohio and the new Cultural Center. The peanut gallery was filled with artists and community residents while the Foundation made an appeal for $300,000 in Ohio State funds. Representatives from Mariemont, including Mayor Dan Policastro and Building Commissioner Dennis Malone made it clear that Mariemont is "all about" history, and the Village loves their Barn.
When Foundation Secretary, Jan Boone, had a minute to say her piece, the State Representatives sat up and took notice! You have to pay attention when someone speaks that fast! The pie charts were impressive, too!
The case to be made, is that the Foundation needs money to make the Cultural Center accessible, and to complete the first floor of the building. Pavement will allow for efficient parking and give the property a drive for 'drop offs' of children and seniors. Completion of the first floor will provide enough rental space to generate income to complete the second floor. Once the entire property is operable, fund raising can be used for an endowment fund, scholarships, or care and upgrades of the property, like a new roof.
THANK YOU to Majority Whip Michelle Schneider, and Representatives Tom Brinkman, Jr., Eric Kearny, Bill Seitz and many others who gave their Saturday morning to hear about our project. We look forward to having you all as guests and students at the new Cultural Center.
